In the 2nd round of the Junior Show Jumping league held on Wednesday past  we had a poor number of competitiors,  where are all our juniors this year?     Katie McKee and Kilvey Joker won the novice class  while in the Intermediate Cerys Howell /Georgie Boy and  new member Amanda McVeigh / Hampton Spirit both had double clears.   As always the Open class proved exciting with a very tight jump off leaving Robyn McFadden /Navara in  1st place and Lauren Johnston / Max in 2nd.  Once again Juniors are to be congratulated on their  excellent turn out all with either Club sweatshirts or Jackets.

Our show jumping night was well supported  with many of our new members out winning rosettes.   Lesley Robinson was delighted with her horse Harry as they jumped  in a competition for the first time and got a red  rosette,it was good to see Diane McCully and David Patterson our jumping their Dressage horses  and Cerys Howell was busy jumping off one pony onto her next one.    Thank you  to all who helped.

Our last demo night with Physio Clare Lutton was enjoyed by a huge audience, and thank you all ,we raised One Hundred pounds for the Cavallo Riding for the Disabled and next time you are at Gransha read the lovely thank you card we received from Lady Blackwood.

Our Dressage night got members out competiting again.  Thanks to judge Kirsty Stuart  and scribe Courtney.  Michelle Beattie and Rorymac were delighted with their win in the Walk Trot test with Lynsey Cairns /Mickey Joe in 2nd and Barbara Magee/Merlin in 3rd.   In the Prelim 4 test Lynsey Cairns on her second ride of the evening Autumn Whisper gained a very good score of 73.6% to take 1st place with Steven Murphy / Bailey's Shore in 2nd , Nicola McMaster/Peter Pan 3rd ,  Sylvia Henry /Bailey's Shore  4th,    Reese Hogg /Kara  5th place and Lynsey Cairns / Cotton Casey Bear in 6th.   Well done to all who competed.

19th October is our Show Jumping night which again is open to ALL .  Classes are 60cms,  80cms and 1mt.  7.30 start

The 1st round of our Leagues start on Wednesday with Junior Dressage . Tests are Novice class   Prelim test  4  and  Open class  Novice test 28  remember entries are to be prepaid beforeSaturday 22nd October and entry forms are on the Join Us page  on website.  Copies of tests will be on notice board at Gransha and time available on website Monday 24th October.

Ian Fearon International Show Jumper is holding a Demo at Danescroft in Lisburn  for Riding Club members   £5 prepaid and £10 at the door    This will be a very interesting evening for all levels of riders

Apart form all the above we had a super evening at our prizegiving  the food was again excellent thank you to all who helped , and to Michael for the disco and to the staff of the Ards Rangers Club and to all our prizewinners.  We are very grateful to  the Cobain Family who this year presented the Club with the Achievement Cup, which was  for the  Club member who had achieved the most throughout the year.  8 nominations  were put forward and the Cobain Family chose who the winners were , with so many they also gave a runner up place this year.   Diane McCully was runner up for her winning the Prelim Championships at Cavan Dressage and 5th in the Novice class and best placed young rider in 4 classes while Steven Yetman won the trophy for winning Gold Silver and Bronze at the Special Olympics in Greece.   Well Done to all trophy winners.

Lucy O'Keefe has won the 60cm Derby Class ( course of 16 fences included banks and water ditches) at Laurelview today  ,  Katie  Fowler  was 1st in the 75cm show jumping at Capal and 3rd in the coloured cob class   and  Karen McKeown has had more success with her new horse Donovan as she has won the Sportsman B  class at the event Tullymurray and won the metre class at Danescroft on Thursday past

Dressage Test: British Eventing Intro Dressage 102 for all Classes.

Stephen who competes in our Club dressage league has really improved in his dressage competitions  considering he rides which ever school pony   he is given and usually does not have time to practice the tests. 

Entries close on Wednesday for our Dressage on Saturday  so give Jacky a ring asap.

Our 2   junior  members who turned up for the cross country schooling and show jumping had a super time.  They jumped a couple of rounds of coloured fences before going into the grass paddock to tackle the  logs and brush fences.   After jumping some of the cross country fences   Stella was very brave and decided to have a go at jumping the dry ditch which her pony really enjoyed , Cerys had her new palamino   pony who then  jumped the bigger fences and the girls and their ponys had great fun and  went home with their prizes and rosettes..   Such a shame more of our junior pre novices  were'nt there!

We had a super afternoon on Easter Tuesday with the 3rd round of the Junior Pre Novice competitions. Meanwhile news from the Cavan Working Hunter Festival is that Alanna Clegg and Highly Sprung have won the Cob Class and Leah Jackson and Lou Lou were 2nd in the Novice Working Hunter.  Gemma McIlwaine and Burrenbridge were 3rd  in the Novice class and are in the top 10 in the Open class for the evening performance tonight , well done all those members and good luck to any other members competiting to day.

Junior Pre Novice afternoon starts at 2.30pm on Easter Tuesday  and  the  Junior Final of the Show Jumping is on Wednesday evening at 7pm (riders are to correctly dressed)    both these competitions will be held in the outdoor arena.

Our Dressage team travelled to the final of the League held at Knockaghview Lodge  and came home will a load of rosettes.    On the day they finished in 5th place  with Lisa 6th in the prelim team individual and Jacky 5th in the novice team individual  / 5th in the league and Diane 4th in team individual league .  Overall the team were placed 2nd in the league  Well Done to all who rode on the teams.  

The N.I. Riding Clubs Championships for Dressage ,Riding Tests and Style Jumping are at Laurelview on Saturday 4th June  open to juniors and seniors .  Information about this competition can be obtained from Anne   07871186550

This past weekend the North/South Show Jumping Challenge took place at Necarne and team of Nat Wilton, Jackie Walker and Pauline Tomalin travelled to represent the Club.  They did extremely  well with just 3 members and finished in 9th place out of 22 teams

A Riding & Road Safety   course  will be held at Gransha April/May  . A tight course had been set by course builder Adrienne Stuart which became even more challenging in the timed rounds but the Portmore Nickels held their nerve to edge in front of the Moilhill Usual Suspects (Ann, Anna, Gary , Joanne)by 2 secs with Portmore Dimes (Laura, Etain, Kathryn John) .in a very close 3^rd.

The fastest clear round of the day went to Gransha member Alanna Clegg in 24.90 with Portmores Kathryn King hot on her heels 24.98 and Limepark’s Hayley Johnston in 3^rd on 26.86.

Finally getting round to an update as  I have been having trouble with my internet connections since before Christmas.

Santa also had problems getting to the Christmas party as one of his reindeer went lame on the way but luckily  the N.I.Fire Service came along to the rescue and  brought him in the Fire engine much to the delight to the Children and some of the Adults so he managed to deliver his presents  and the evening was great fun.   The money raised from the ballot  was presented to the N.I.Fire Service Benevelont  Fund

The flat work lessons with Lucy Adams have started on Friday evenings  and all are looking forward to their next lesson.   We  are trying to arrange jumping lessons  on Fridays in March  , if you are interested let me know 07871186550, this would be good for members who would be interested in competiting in any of the Riding Clubs Championship competitions throughout the summer.

Dressage at Danescroft on Saturday.  In the Prelim 4  Nicola McMaster was 5th with Peter Pan and Stephen Murphy 6th and  3rd in Test 10 , with Bailey's Best of Three .   In the Elementary classes Rosemary Paterson was 2nd in Test 42 and 4th in Test 45   with Homegrown Exchange

Wednesday night saw  the first of our Indoor competitions . Jacky Reid and Diane McCully  judged the Dressage with Steven Yetman 1st in the Intro A and Ruth Smith 2nd.        In the Junior section of Prelim 7  Rebecca Hooks won by 1 point over Gemma McIlwaine with Natasha Wilson in 3rd, Rebecca Halligan and Jordyn Martin =4th.         In the Senior section  again with the marks very close Nicola McMaster were 1st, Karen McKeown 2nd,  Laura Monan  3rd,  Rhonda Hall  4th  Suzanne Martin 5th and Suzi McClean 6th. 

Competitions continue this Wednesday 20th with show jumping  classes are 50cms, 70cms and 90cms starting at 7:30

The camp is aimed at those riding club members who wish to develop their riding skills, both on the flat and over fences, and who wish to take opportunity of the superb facilities, and excellent trainers, Tim Downes and Margie Lowry to further improve their horses training.

The riders will work on improving balance and confidence towards better riding
The fiat lessons will work on improving the horse way of going which in turn should improve the rider’s dressage scores.

Each rider will ride, Friday evening and twice on Saturday & Sunday.
Tuition is in small groups, with the main focus being to develop greater harmony between horse and rider. Riders may choose between show jumping, flat or a mixture of both.
Apart from the excellent educational benefits of the camp, members enjoy a fun weekend of socializing with likeminded people.

Accommodation is in the Mahon’s Hotel Irvinestown 5 minutes from centre.
Tim will be assessing riders from 6pm to 8pm on Friday, so arrive when it suits.

£200 per person
This cost is based on shared accommodation.

This clinic is to give members more insight into the art of competition.
It is for all standards of rider but especially the novice, to give them a greater understanding of

Sunday saw some of the younger members at Lusks, where Cerys Howell had  double clears in the 60.70 and won the 80 class and was 1st in the Working Hunter with Georgie Boy .  Amy Black  was 4th in the working hunter and 2nd in the style and appearance class on Sasha and Katie came 1st in the 2 first ridden classes.  Niamh Martin also had a good  day at Ardnacashel and was placed in 2 of the jumping classes

Congratulations to Terry Emerson who recently passed the Level 2 Horsemans Certificate.

After many months of riding in the league competitions Club members and friends gathered together in the Ards Rangers Club on Friday evening for our prize giving night.

Club Chairman James McCully presented the trophies and this year many of our new members received prizes.

Many thanks to all members who brought salads which accompanied the excellent meat platters from “Homegrown” and the beautiful deserts and to Christine, Gillian, Hazel Linda & Jacky who made sure everyone had plenty to fill their plates, and to Leanne who organised the Ballot and to D.J. Michael who with a varied selection of music who kept us up dancing.

This year the “ Colin Armstrong ”Overall Champion Cup was again won by Junior member Rebecca Hooks and the “In Sport” Endeavour trophy won by Senior member Lisa Cooper who has improved greatly over the year.

In the Junior Section we introduced Lead Rein classes for Dressage , Working Hunter and Show Jumping and McVeigh Engineering presented new trophies for these classes and Trophies By Design presented new trophies for the Junior Intermediate Show Jumping and Senior Pre Novice Working Hunter Classes. Thank you to both sponsors.

Next years date is set for Friday 19th August 2011  and hopefully all prize winners will manage to tun up to receive their prizes!

Don't forget the Police Horse Competition  this  Wednesday night  open to horses and ponies starting  around 7pm.

Cerys Howell who is only 7 and her first year in the Club and only of the lead rein 18mths has had a lot of success recently.  At Penninsula league she was second in 50s and 60s  in the final jumping against the clock, at Larne show 1st in the Cradle & Starter Stakes Working Hunters and 4th in the open starter stakes at Saintfield show and good placing at Killyleagh,  Reserve Champion at IPS show at Gransha and Gransha under 12s show.

 Meanwhile at Capall Show Stella Black was 2nd in 133cm pony showing and qualified for the Championship  and Amy 1st in the 75cms  jumping.      Alanna Clegg and Highly Sprung won the 153 Working Hunter,    Diane McCully was 2nd in the  Lightweight Hunter class and Reserve Champion.  If anyone has any other results send them to me via the website.

The Riding Clubs Summer Camp will take place this year earlier from the 15th to 18th July.  As for the past few years, camp will be held this year in Necarne Castle, the Ulster Lakelands Premier Equine Facility. 
The camp is aimed at those riding club members who wish to develop their riding skills, both on the flat and over fences, and who wish to take opportunity of the excellent facilities, and the regular trainers, Margie Lowry and Tim Downes FBHS to further improve their horses training.
Tuition is in small groups, with the main focus being to develop greater harmony between horse and rider.
Apart from the excellent educational benefits of the camp, members enjoy a fun weekend of socializing with like minded people, the weekend promises a bar-b-que, a meal out, a sing song and much general merriment!

Full Camp - £290
The full camp includes your accommodation and all meals except, dinner on Saturday night, no lunch Thursday. All riders’ tuition. Horses stable and bedding, bring your own hard feed and hay.
Tea, coffee and buns will be available all day.
Daily Camp £155
 Daily camp includes all riders’ tuition and lunches except lunch on Thursday.  Tea, coffee and buns will be available all day. If  a stable is required for overnight accommodation it will be charged at £11 per night.

Cancellations: If you are unable to attend the camp for whatsoever reason and we are able to fill your space then a full refund of all monies paid will be given. If the space can not be filled then a refund will be provided less an administration fee of £50 (required to cover committed expenses)
Body protectors must be worn for Cross Country and are strongly recommended for showjumping

Things are slowing down a little within the Club as summer approaches  as there are so many shows for you all to go to .   The next club night will be the 5 A Side Football. Details to follow.

We are holding  show jumping competitions open to non members on Saturday 15th May at Gransha Equestrian Centre starting at 10am.. Classes are (1) 50cms -60cms  (2) 70cm-80cms  (3)  90 - 1 mt     (4) pairs    and are suitable for horses and ponies. Entry fees are £8 per class for members   £10 for non members.   We will need help to set up the course in the evenings  throughout  the  week  and help on the day . It would be nice to see some of our members who have not been at the Club for a while out  helping . If you have any free time give me a ring  07871186550.

On Sunday  7th March one of our Show Jumping teams finished in 4^th place (a total of 23 teams competed) in the Northern Ireland  Riding Clubs Indoor Team Show Jumping Championships at Portmore.           Congratulations to Heather Dempster, Emma Mooney, Nat Wilton and Ruth Cousins . Thank  you also to Chef d’equipe Pamela Lee and Rhonda, Robyn, Pauline and Rebecca who also competed but were not in the placings and to all the helpers and supporters

The final round of the Junior League is on 14^th April and is open to all Junior novice, intermediate and open riders even if you have not been competing in the league up to now. Correct dress Must be worn for final rounds.
